BSP Kingston presents

An eclectic evening of world-influenced folk/rock music with

Rootbrew / Billy Wylder / Ami Madeleine

$10 | 18+ | 7:30 Doors / 8PM Show

Sprouted from New York’s fertile Hudson Valley, Rootbrew was formed by Benjy Bruno and Ryan Reutershan with the purpose of exploring their shared appreciation for the uplifting and positive sounds of different world music that they had each grown up listening to and developed further interest in throughout their adult lives. Their songwriting reflects influences that clearly focus on their American roots, while also drawing heavily from some of their musical heroes from West and South Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

The resulting sound is not always the easiest to communicate to the audience, and Roger LaRochelle was the locked in drummer that was needed to hold down the groove that this music requires. His pocket, as well as his skill set on the kit, were the added elements that have allowed Rootbrew’s music to be felt as much as it is heard.

“A spiritual cousin to Paul Simon’s Graceland” –Seven Days

From the front-lines at Standing Rock to the archaic streets of Jerusalem to the dunes of the Sahel Desert all the way to Carnegie Hall, music has been the thread and source of strength for Billy Wylder. The band features Avi Salloway from Bombino/Hey Mama/Avi & Celia joined by an inspired cast of top-notch musicians who have performed in over twenty five countries. Over the last three years, Salloway has toured the globe, performing with Bombino, the Tuareg guitar virtuoso from Niger, Africa and is now bringing new and old songs to life with the Wylder family.

Billy Wylder, like their peers, the David Wax Museum and Rubblebucket, bring sounds from around the globe to meld with their American roots, taking the listener on a journey from bayou to borough, desert to dreamland. Wylder’s on a soul journey, singing songs with the people he meets, songs of love and adventure, filled by the color of his footsteps.

The band has toured extensively, performing and collaborating with renowned artists including The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, David Longstreth (Dirty Projectors), Jack Johnson, Bombino, The Low Anthem, and Pete Seeger.
